What FIFA World Cup 2018 teaches you about your life?

Posted in Personal Branding, Transformation On Jul 09, 2018

The game of life can simply be understood through the game of football. The FIFA world Cup football 2018 competition shows you how both life and football have evolved. This once-every- 4 year- event marks the evolution from simplicity to complexity, from the super star to great teams, and from individuality to teamwork.

The elimination of super stars early on from this competition marks the end of an era and the emergence of a new one. It’s the end of the larger-than-life figure such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Neymar Jr and the rise of great teams. Great teams will eventually win the tournament.

Since it was codified in 1863, football has run through different stages. In its early stage, the game was centered on individuality where the super star was the sun and the other ten players were revolving around him. By time, starting from 1950s, and in response to heavy offence formations, more defensive-oriented formations came into play. Formation permutations were invented and the Coach was the one to decide what is best for the team. Still, the super star was the one that makes the difference: the likes of the legendary Brazilian Pele in 1960s and the unstoppable Argentinian Maradona in 1980s.

Football is about teams more than being about individuals. The complexity of the game is demonstrated in the changeable formations throughout the same game. If one player is not fulfilling what is asked from him the whole team will be suffering. Besides, there is an overlap in what the one player can do throughout the match. The external elements such as politics, media pressure, and the burden of the team’s history make the game more complex.

The rise of the great teamwork as opposed to individuality was manifested in the great teams of France and Belgium. The elimination of the Argentinian team by France was more than neutralizing Messi. It was a combination of teamwork that starts with the coach’s vision, the players fulfilling their responsibilities, and the opponent’s more reliance on Messi than on teamwork.

What the game of football teaches you is that nothing great can be achieved individually. In order for your evolution to reach the next level, a mindset needs to be shifted. That shift should basically be centered on the creative collaboration of others and the realization that nothing worthy can be achieved individually. Eventually, it is the teamwork that will win in the game of life.
